Tesfaye moves to 2nd on ’17 European 1500m chart with performance at Monaco Diamond League meeting

In the Herculis Monaco 1500m field that included reigning Olympic 1500m champion Matt Centrowitz, reigning European 1500m Champion Filip Ingebrigtsen, three-time defending 1500m world champion Asbel Kiprop, and a host of other top-ranked middle distance athletes, Homiyo Tesfaye held his own to finish 5th in the deepest 1500m race of the season, won by Elijah Manangoi in a world-leading 3:28.80.  Tesfaye’s time of 3:33.47 was the fourth-fastest of his career in the event and the fastest since his personal best of 3:31.98 from 2014.  Only Filip Ingebrigtsen with his 3:32.48 from the Monaco race (4th place) ranks ahead of Tesfaye in Europe this season.

In other action at this week’s Meeting International D’Athletisme De Liege on 19. July and Night of Athletics (Heusden) on 22. July, performances of note by Personae-managed athletes included Ann Zagre in the 100m Hurdles (1st in Liege and 2nd in Heusden, clocking 13.00 in both races); Renee Eykens in the Heusden 800m (1st in 2:03.34); Mamush Lencha in the Liege 800m (1st in 1:46.61); Dawit Wolde in the Heusden 5000m (2nd in 13:10.13 PB); Bashir Abdi in the Heusden 5000m (3rd in 13:11.87); Fanny Smets in the Heusden Pole Vault (5th in 4.41m PB); and Japhet Korir in the Heusden 5000m (5th in 13:14.56 PB).
